Building automation systems provide numerous benefits for industrial and manufacturing facilities including lower operating costs, increased energy efficiency and smaller carbon footprints, enhanced safety and security, increased productivity, and so much more. But making the leap from isolated legacy control systems to a unified automation platform has its challenges. High installation costs and integration difficulties are lead the list, as the process of networking previously siloed systems can be monumental.
T1L Ethernet connectivity provides a cost-efficient and effective solution that facilitates the creation of high-speed IP networks using the existing twisted pair wiring already installed in most buildings.
Benefits & Practical Aspects of Implementing SPE Network Solutions
For Existing & New Two-Wire Cable Infrastructures
T1L Ethernet uses a single pair of twisted copper wires for data transmission versus traditional Ethernet which requires two or four pairs or wires. Commonly referred to as 10BASE-T1L or IEEE 802.3cg, T1L single pair Ethernet (SPE) is ideal for numerous building automation and industrial applications where IIOT edge devices may be installed at long distances from their control points.
T1L Ethernet reduces cabling complexity and cost by leveraging existing infrastructure and eliminating repeaters, enabling enhanced data transmission and power distribution to support virtually any type or number of edge devices across myriad types of system management and control platforms.
T1L key characteristics include:

Integrating building management and control systems using existing infrastructure centralizes management and increases operational efficiencies and energy optimization across the enterprise.

Video displays are increasingly being used across exterior and interior locations for a wide range of applications including brand messaging, location services, safety and security.

Shipping and receiving operations can integrate warehouse and inventory management, order/process management, asset tracking and transportation systems with distributed architecture.

Connecting sensors, actuators, and controllers in factories and process automation environments can greatly enhance production management and productivity over expansive spaces.

New networked LED lighting systems, enabling automation, scheduling, and integration with related building systems enrich environments and reduce energy consumption.

Ideal for integrated IP surveillance cameras, access control, fire and safety, and intrusion detection systems employing advanced analytics and management platforms all connected over long distances to centralized security operation centers (SOCs).

Centralized control of environmental systems ensures that specific conditions are maintained to support specific environments - from general office areas to clean rooms and data centers.

Systems that keep people and assets moving throughout a facility are mission critical, impacting productivity, safety and security, and occupants' user experience with an organization.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions can integrate some or all of an organization's systems to collect myriad sources of data from previously disparate systems, providing new insights for analysis and planning.
Altronix PACE SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) T1L media converter/adaptors enable connection of 10Base-T1L, IEE802.3cg compliant IIoT devices to an Ethernet network. Long distance headend to remote-end device cabling can be achieved to over 1km/ 1,000m /3,280’.
In addition to new SPE (UTP) Ethernet network installations, upgrading of legacy networks, i.e. LONworks, RS485, 4-20mA Control Loops, etc. can be achieved using the existing two wire cabling, thus saving rip and replace reinstallation costs.
Operationally, the PACE T1L media converter/adaptors connect to a POE midspan/endspan switch at the headend and pass network data from the switch via UTP to the remote T1L edge device.
